Locality: American Samoa, MANUA DISTRICT, Olosega County, Trail from above Le aumasili Point toward Piumafua Mountain, S of Alei ridge; near site of Sili Uta village abandoned since 1981. Elev. 190-210 m.
Habitat: Secondary forest of Cocos, Pandanus tectorius var. laevis, Inocarpus , breadfruit, reverting to montane wet forest with Tarenna, Alphitonia, Flacourtia, Diospyros, Dysoxylum, Elattostachys, Hibiscus tiliaceus, on deep brown soil.
Occurrence Remarks: Canopy tree 12 m tall. Fallen fruits globose, tan, splitting into 4-5 segments, seeds red arillate. Parts with garlic odor. Common, indigenous. Samoan name: maota.
